Fossil Knightia Alta Fish Shoal Lithographic Limestone Plate

About the Item

This visually stunning statement piece, designed for placement, captures a shoal of Knightia Alta fish for vertical wa authentically fossilised within the original silt beds of a once tropical lagoon from the Green River, Wyoming. The unique sub-lithographic limestone plate presents a remarkable opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts to own a piece of natural history. This extraordinary find features a considerable slab of specimen fish dating back to the Eocene era, an impressive 50,000,000 to 33,000,000 million years. What sets this discovery apart is the exquisite articulation of each specimen, showcasing the intricate details. The level of preservation allows for a closer examination of these prehistoric creatures, revealing the beauty and complexity of their anatomical structures originating from the sub-lithographic limestone formation known for its geological richness and historical significance.  It's important to note the rarity of finding specimens of this size within their original bedrock. Typically, discoveries of fossils are limited to smaller-sized plates, often no greater than 12-18 inches in length, and the surrounding matrix is frequently damaged or missing with breaks throughout. The exceptional size and state of preservation of this find is a truly unique and rare opportunity. This is a genuine connection to a distant past and scientific understanding of prehistoric marine life in the Eastern Mediterranean. As with any significant fossil discovery, it is a testament to the rich geological history and the fascinating creatures that once inhabited the ancient waters. Details

Plants are multicellular, photosynthetic eucaryotes. The oldest known land plant body fossils are Silurian in age. Fossil root traces of land plants are known back to the Ordovician era. The Devonian was the critical time interval during which land plants flourished, and Earth experienced its first “greening” of the land. The earliest land plants were small and simple and probably remained close to bodies of water. By the Late Devonian, land plants had evolved large, tree-sized bodies, and the first-ever forests appeared.

Glossopteris is probably the most familiar fossil leaf...
