From N'Chwaning I Mine, Kuruman, Cape Province, South Africa, this lustrous, stark black, sharply hexagonally crystallized specimen of gaudefroyite with hematite brings unexpected presence. The uncommon mineral gaudefroyite is found in manganese deposits and was named in 1964 for French mineralogist Christophe-Léon Gaudefroy. Ex. Karl-Ludwig von Bezing Collection.
