Genuine 362 Gram Muonionalusta Meteorite Slice, 4.5 Billion Years Old
About the Item
This impressive 362 gram slice displays the beauty of the Muonionalusta meteorite. It has been sliced and polished to enhance the natural etching formed when the Muonionalusta entered the atmosphere. Muonionalusta is a meteorite classified as a fine octahedrite which impacted in northern Scandinavia west of the border between Sweden and Finland about one million years BCE. The first Muonionalusta was found in 1906 and it is one of the oldest known meteorites at roughly 4.5 billion years old. This specimen is part of the meteorite's iron core or mantle, which shattered into many pieces upon its fall to our planet. On Earth, it has experienced four ice ages. Mainly comprised of a combination of iron and nickel, the distinct type of etching displayed by the meteorite is known as the Widmanstätten pattern. This is a visually and historically fascinating acquisition for any collector. Comes with Certificate of Authenticity.
