Green Quartz var. Prasiolite Crystal Cluster Mineral Specimen – China

About the Item

Quartz can be found in nearly every corner of the earth, yet despite its abundance, there are some rarer varieties of quartz that differentiate themselves with their distinctive color and form. Quartz with a green color is called “prasiolite,” "prasem quartz,” or “prase.” While most prase are quite light in tone, prase from Huanggang is known for its rich tone and opacity. This atypical sub-variety gets its color from inclusions of hedenbergite, a calcium iron silicate. While quartz with this coloration has been found in other places, such as Greece and Russia, the examples from China set themselves apart with their amazing quality and the intensity of their depth of tone. This piece exemplifies the Huanggang varietal with its dark, hunter-green color. Every one of its dozens of crystals is sharply formed with articulated terminations. Glossy luster punctuates each point and face, giving the piece a dark brilliance. Furthermore, the overall composition of the cluster is balanced and symmetrical, making this a fine example of its kind. Reference ID: #20439

Seafoam Green Fluorite Crystal Mineral Specimen – Dongpo Ore Field, China
Located in Edison, NJ
This is an attractive example from the Dongpo Ore Field of China. The best Dongpo fluorites are known for translucent crystals with great form and an attractive light green tone. This is a prime example featuring three sharp, cuboctahedral crystals in a saturated, seafoam green tone. The fluorites have multi-stepped faces along their sides and central faces that are smooth, acting like windows into the translucent crystals. The crystals’ lustrous sheen further highlights their intricate structure. They have formed atop a contrasting matrix (host-rock) of bladed, beige dolomite crystals. The dolomite is sharp and has formed in dense intergrown rosettes. Peeking out from under the dolomite and fluorites is a shimmering matrix of druzy, white quartz that frames the piece overall. The juxtaposition of textures, colors, and species makes the already colorful fluorite crystals...

Although the deposit has been mined since 1914 for ore, it has only recently been a source of collectible mineral specimens. Despite being among the newer finds in the mineral collecting world, YGX fluorites have distinguished themselves with their enchanting water-color blues, lilacs, and purples and propensity for good form. This is a sculptural example made up of several cubic fluorite crystals...
