About the Item
Large Ammonite Fossil Natural Specimen, Mortoniceras Drakeoceras Maximum. About 110 million years old.
At nearly eleven inches, this is a substantial and beautiful fossil ammonite. It has nice nodes and ribs, and you can even see some of the internal leaf-like patterns. This specimen of prehistoric life on earth would make a great conversation piece or natural history display for the home or office. As is always ideal, the ammonite has been cleared of the matrix in which these are found during digs on both sides, so both sides (rather than just one side like some ammonite specimens) show the ammonite, which is preferable and adds to its value and beauty. Since it is a prehistoric fossil it shows its age (of course!) such as cracks, pits, and possibly some restorations, etc. We do our best to find the nicest possible items with the least bothersome imperfections. The stand shown is used and has notable wear, and is not made specifically for this ammonite (so use at your own risk), but if you'd like it anyway, we are happy to provide it as a gift with the ammonite purchase.
