About the Item

A large natural pyrite of an unusual form sourced from the ex UK private collection. This native British mineral has a lustrous exterior that catches the light beautifully. Naturally formed over millions of years, this striking mineral specimen showcases a distinctive golden colour, typical of pyrite, for which its metallic lustre is famously named ‘Fool’s Gold’. This specimen is of a unique shape and scale, making for an impressive sculptural piece in any property. Provenance From the fascinating collection of Gordon Walkden (1944-2022), emeritus Professor of Geology at Aberdeen University. Affectionally known as Aberdeen’s answer to Indiana Jones, Walkden contributed enormously to research through his papers and talks on British marbles, minerals and fossils. Highly respected in his field, Walkden was active throughout his retirement, invited to Windsor Castle to identify marbles used in the Albert Memorial Chapel. This is just one of various specimens we are selling originally from his outstanding collection.
