About the Item
This slab of ancient Japanese solid wood was cut from a single, enormous tree that grew over many years.
The powerful, intricately undulating grain, the intricate overlapping of tree rings, and the natural cavities and cracks speak volumes about the depth of the tree's life. The organic shapes that appear only inside the trunk are a beauty unique to natural materials that could never be replicated through artificial processing.
The cracks are joined with traditional wooden joints called "chigiri," which reinforce the structure while also serving as decorative elements. Chigiri is an ancient Japanese woodworking technique, symbolizing the harmony between natural materials and craftsmanship.
This single slab was originally part of a large tree that grew in the forest over decades, or even over a century. The tree rings, which reveal the tree's age, seal in the memory of time like geological layers. This material can be used for tables, counters, or even as a wall art piece, bringing the power and tranquility of nature to modern spaces.
