Rare authentic natural California Purple Coral or Allopora Californica from Catalina Island region mounted on Asian form base, c.1960s.
Allopora californica, otherwise known as purple hydrocoral, is found in deep water off the coast of California. From an old collection, the present specimen is near the maximum size. This coral has been banned from harvest for many years and any available specimens are from old collections.
