An extraordinary natural Gogotte formation from Fontainebleau, France — a geological masterpiece formed millions of years ago from fine quartz sand fused together by mineral-rich waters. With its cloudlike curves and sculptural presence, this specimen blurs the line between nature and art.
Discovered only in Fontainebleau, just south of Paris, Gogottes were coveted by Louis XIV, the “Sun King”, who had them excavated to embellish the gardens of Versailles. Their soft, abstract forms have since inspired artists from the Surrealists to contemporary sculptors, making them timeless objects of fascination.
