Studio Greytak 'Calcite on Cast Glass Base' White & Clear Calcite & Yellow Glass

$3,000

About

Calcite on cast glass base Brighten your day with a drop of sunshine in Studio Greytak's Calcite on cast glass. The translucent calcite fins radiate from the vibrant yellow cast glass base as if they are an explosion of light themselves. The gently contoured yellow glass base captures light and displays the calcite specimen effortlessly. A calcite sarcophagus discovered in the tomb of Seti, near Thebes, sits on display at a London museum. Carved from a single block of translucent calcite alabaster from the ancient Egyptian quarries in Alabastron, it is an homage more to this foundational mineral than to the body inside. Calcite is the basis for seashells, coral and plankton in the sea. It makes up the famous Carrara marble from Italy, Limestone cliffs in Iowa, and the Washington, Monument in D.C. Travertine comes from calcite, precipitating out of hot springs like those in Yellowstone National Park. It forms drapes in Mitchell Caverns, California, and forms the White Cliffs of Dover. Even Michelangelo’s Pieta found its start in Calcite. No wonder it is considered the “multi-vitamin” of the metaphysical world. Considered a large energy amplifier, calcite is said to speed up development and growth. It connects the emotions with the intellect and, like its physical properties, is rightfully called the stabilizing stone. Find a place near a window to focus the light and enhance the stabilizing energy of this piece. Materials: Calcite Cast art glass Colors: White Clear Yellow.

About the Maker

Studio Greytak

Studio Greytak is a conceptual art project by John Greytak. He explores the intersection between design by nature and design by humans. He does this by curating and collecting the most compelling examples of works from nature, then offering them up to a select group of designers who work with him at his design center in the Treasure State of Montana.
