Stunning Antique Bronze Sculpture / Statue of a Well Dressed Venetian Merchant
About the Item
Rare, striking and highly decorative antique bronze sculpture.
This beautifully dressed and perfectly handcrafted bronze sculpture of a merchant from Venice comes with the most wonderful details. It does not take a trained eye to see the quality in the details and because of those details (and the quality of the casting) it immediately tells us that this glorious sculpture was made in the 1800s. Both the sculptor and the foundry must have been among the best of the era, because this kind of quality and detail was no longer made in the 20th century. Unfortunately this bronze is not signed, but this can only be the work of a master sculptor. It stands on a beautiful bronze base, but from the screwthread in the bottom of that bronze base one can see that it was originally placed on a (most likely) marble base. And we are certain that the original base bore the signature or 'name-tag' of the sculptor. The clearly seasoned artist whom created this bronze managed to portray a perfect body posture combined with the most amazing details in the traditional Venetian Renaissance costume. We have shot photos both inside and outside so that you can see that this rare masterpiece will look great, no matter where you decide to have it on display.
