Vesuvianite, Jeffrey Mine, Val-des-Sources, Les Sources RCM, Estrie, Canada

About the Item

Vesuvianite, Jeffrey Mine, Val-des-Sources, Les Sources RCM, Estrie, Québec, Canada 7.5 cm tall x 6 cm wide "The Jeffrey mine, once the largest producer of chrysotile asbestos in the world, was in continuous operation for almost 130 years until its recent decline and closure. It is the most famous and by far the most prolific specimen-producing, classic mineral locality in Canada, best known to collectors for the superb specimens of grossular and vesuvianite." (2013). The Jeffrey Mine, Asbestos, Quebec, Canada. The Mineralogical Record, 44 (July-August), 375. This specimen comes from a significant discovery of vesuvianite, the now famous 1979 pocket. This pocket was like no other. It produced a small group of vesuvianites possessing extraordinary purple tipped bi-color crystals of intense vibrancy. This example is often referred to as the ultimate, and among the three best from the Jeffrey Mine. Pictured: Amabili, M. (2013, January 1). The Best Vesuvianite Specimens from the Jeffrey Mine. The Mineralogical Record, 44(July-August), 425. Pictured: IKONS -- The Beauty of Fine Minerals Ex-Marco Amabili collection
