A Pair of Gilt Bronze Foo Lions
About the Item
Modeled after the imperial lions that guard the Forbidden City and the Summer Palace, this pair sits alert, mouths open, ears perked, and ready to repel evil.
The male holds a ball underfoot, the female a cub. Both wear a collar decorated with bats (a symbol of prosperity). The rectangular plinths they sit upon feature a double lotus design, drapery featuring a peony amongst coins, and a border of repeating "wan" characters (symbolizing eternal happiness).
