19th Century Continental Sterling Silver & Rock Crystal Perfume Bottle

About the Item

19th Century Continental Sterling Silver and Rock Crystal Perfume Bottle with Lovebird Motif A romantic and finely crafted 19th-century Continental perfume bottle, featuring a clear hand-carved rock crystal body encased in ornate sterling silver mounts. The elongated teardrop form is gracefully proportioned, showcasing the purity and clarity of the crystal with gentle faceting that catches the light. The repoussé silverwork is exceptional, with rich floral garlands framing the body and culminating in a domed, hinged lid adorned with a bouquet of roses and scrolling acanthus. At the neck of the bottle, two intricately intertwined lovebirds are nestled among trailing vines and blossoms—an enduring 19th-century symbol of romance, devotion, and fidelity. The hinged lid opens smoothly and bears a monogrammed oval cartouche, likely belonging to the original owner. Though unmarked, the silver tests as sterling and is consistent with high-quality French or Austro-Hungarian work from the mid-to-late 1800s. A rare and lyrical example of the Grand Tour or vanity tradition, this perfume bottle makes a treasured addition to any collection of antique scent vessels or decorative objets de vertu.
