Italian Early 19th Century Hand Blown Glass Damigiana

About the Item

A rare Italian hand blown blue glass damigiana or demijohn hand-crafted in Italy circa 1800. Composed of a gorgeous free-blown aqua blue glass that exhibits trapped air bubbles within the glass and with a sheared lip. Its simply elegant form and unique color make this glass vessel used for transporting wine in 19th century Italy a highly collectible item. In very good antique condition, this piece would make a great addition to any space giving it the elements of texture and dimension.     A beautiful 19th century French handblown green glass demijohn or Dame Jeanne bottle, circa 1880s, having a bulbous shape and brightly colored green glass with visible bubbles and no seams, an indication that it was hand blown rather than made with a mold. The uneven cut at the top rim was created when the glass blower cut the bottle, also an indication that it was hand blown.
