About the Item

This rustic mezcal bottle is a replica of an antique bottle or demijohn which was used to store mezcal, drunken during folk theaters in Oaxaca, Mexico. The bottle is done with ceramic graffiti sgraffito technique which is later painted with oxide and earth. In the inside it has a lead-free glaze which has been tested so liquid can be added and it doesn't filter. Perfect for storing hard liquors like tequila, mezcal, aguardiente or any strong liquor. About the artist: Take tradition to evolve, transform, and innovate are all part of Omar Hernández’s work. Born in a pottery town he was taught from a young age the fundamentals. It was later when Omar decided to change the direction of the work he was doing to create his own language. His creations include objects inspired by pre-Hispanic pieces (ceremonial vessels), utilitarian pieces (oval casseroles, bowls, jars) that transform completely when decorating them with own designs and turning them into works of object art, and ornamental pieces inspired by nature (wall hanging pieces, vases with decoration of vegetal elements or large tree leaf size). Focusing his work on the subjects related to Oaxaca, where he is based; such as the perception of death, mezcal, and nature from the state. Materials and technique: “I like to work with colors that are found in nature, observing and getting inspired by nature; the texture of the tree trunks and leaves.” Omar cooks his pieces in both wood and gas oven. Using sgraffito decoration or modeling of decorative elements to be added to the main parts; in other cases using the texture of natural elements (leaves, stones) that he prints on fresh mud. Glazed on the inside so it can be utilitarian.

Rare Asymmetrical Carved Ceramic Vase, Organic Modern Nicaragua Art Pottery
Located in Clifton Springs, NY
Unusual asymmetrical ceramic vase with partially rounded and partially dimpled body is decorated with carved abstract repeating geometric designs that help accentuate the complex, free-formed shape of the piece. Reserved, earthy dark caramel and chocolate brown palette lets hand carved, highly detailed, richly textured pattern to take center stage. The patterns follow the shape of the vase, hugging its curvature and guiding the eye along its lines; the base and the top of the vase are accentuated with solid chocolate brown glaze with incised concentric details. The vase is unsigned; in a separate listing we are offering a vase done in similar style and technique by Roger Calero, a renowned Nicaraguan ceramic artist. This vase could be attributed to the same artist, or it could be created by another Nicaraguan art...
