Beautiful set of ten pharmaceutical bottles circa 1900 originally from a chemists in Northern Ireland. Note the exquisite gold leaf framed labels which make them real collectors items (and add value). These elegant bottles lined pharmacy shelves until the 1920s. We’ve selected the bottles with the most attractive and desirable titles as well as pretty finish and a variety of sizes and interesting top designs to compliment each other. The rounded stoppers are handblown glass making them more valuable than the others due to it’s finer craftsmanship, the plain chisel top designs are elegant and feel extremely tackle to the touch fitting perfectly with ones thumb, with some finished with hand cut edges, the most superb is the highly decorative hand carved sphere, a scarcer more labor intensive specimen reminiscent of a perfume bottle. The shorthand latin names for these botanical delights gives more detail to be admired. They are all empty but some have a wonderful slight residue of it’s past contents lining the inside of the bottle. Unusual and stunning treasure as a unique feature to accessorise your interior just as fragrance bottles and cosmetic jars would. Works wonderfully as a collection lined up in a stylish bathroom whether traditional or contemporary (see photo of a collection on an antique marble Georgian washstand for style reference only). Fitting beautifully in a bedroom interior, on a shelf, bedside table, dresser, even above the doorway. Bottles included in the listing: Ol: Anethi Pil: Aloes Et Fer Pil: Aloes Et Myr: Tinct: Myrrha/e Pil: Plumb: C Opip Sp: Cinnam: Tinct. Cardam Aromat Inf. Quassia/E Conc. Ol: Verbena/E Troch: Menthol Sizes: largest 21.5 x 9cm, smallest 14.5 x 5cm Color: Red, gold, black and white. Care: I have gently wiped the body with a dampish cloth on the outside to give a clean exterior and bring the top back to a sparkle, but left both the interior and bottle neck in their original state as I don’t want to remove some of the object’s character. Some have visible remnants of the contents, be it powder or liquid and in their colours from white to traces of blue, red and green. You may clean these further but I would not recommend submerging the bottle in water as it may effect the label and its gilt even though they are encased in a sheath of glass. Both water and any form of heat may dislodge the labels as they are held on by an original wax (which you can see if you look through the bottle from the back). Some of the lids are jammed in place but could be gently dislodged at your own peril. I would strongly advise against putting any edible contents in them. Condition: Great antique condition, no damage or restoration on all, shows signs of age that we feel add to their beauty and character, minuscule scuffs and imperfections around the label which are part of their history.
