About the Item

This is a very good example of a small rare shaped triangular Chinese snuff bottle, made from cloisonne´ with hand enamelled decoration depicting various floral designs and complete with its original chained stopper, all dating to the 19th century Qing period, circa 1850. This bottle has a rare triangular shape with its original stopper which is attached to the bottle by a short chain. The main decoration depicts three different floral scenes, one on each face, where one face also has Chinese writing and other motifs against a burnt orange enamel background. There is also a border pattern to the shoulder and upper section. This is a most unusual small 19th century piece, finely decorated and quite different to other snuff bottles we have seen previously. Notes: There is a possibility that this piece could have been used as a scent or perfume bottle but we consider it was a snuff bottle. Either way it is a fine and unusual piece.
