Ruba Rombic Style Glass Bottle

About the Item

This rare 1960s bath salts bottle from Yugoslavia showcases a striking design inspired by the iconic Ruba Rombic collection, originally crafted by Reuben Haley for the Consolidated Lamp and Glass Company in the late 1920s. The bottle's angular, cubist form and clear glass pay homage to Haley's avant-garde aesthetic, making it a notable piece for collectors of Art Deco and cubist-style glassware. In the 1960s, a Yugoslavian manufacturer produced bath salts bottles that closely emulated the Ruba Rombic design. These bottles were originally sold with a small oval paper label on the base reading "MADE IN YUGOSLAVIA." Notable differences from the original Ruba Rombic pieces include prominent mold lines on the sides and hollow stoppers, whereas authentic Ruba Rombic stoppers are solid glass. While these bottles were not intended as replicas, their resemblance has occasionally led to misrepresentation in the market. This particular bottle is in excellent condition, free from chips or cracks. It does not include the original stopper or label. Its clear glass and cubist form make it a distinctive decorative piece, reflecting mid-20th-century interpretations of early Art Deco designs. The Consolidated Lamp and Glass Company, established in 1893 in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania, was renowned for its innovative glass designs. In 1928, designer Reuben Haley introduced the Ruba Rombic line, drawing inspiration from Cubist art he encountered at the 1925 Paris Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes. The name "Ruba Rombic" combines "ruba'i," a form of Persian quatrain poetry, and "rhombic," referring to geometric forms lacking right angles, reflecting the line's fusion of art and science. Despite its artistic significance, the Ruba Rombic line was produced for a limited time, making original pieces highly sought after by collectors.
