About the Item

A striking collection of 14 antique French apothecary bottles, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. Each glass vessel once held medicinal powders, tinctures, or remedies, and still wears its original paper label — some preserved in crisp detail, others softly worn with age. Cork stoppers, glass lids, and rusted metal caps offer a varied silhouette, and the hand-lettered typography in gold and black evokes the quiet authority of a well-stocked pharmacy. Whether grouped on a shelf or displayed individually, these relics tell stories of another era, where science met superstition and form followed function with flair. Found in France, from the late 19th to the early 20th century. This set includes varying sizes of fourteen (14) glass apothecary bottles. Bottles have aged gracefully over time, resulting in a beautiful time-worn patina. The labels show signs of wear, as expected due to age and use. One bottle has lost its label over time. Remnants of powder and liquid are present in some bottles. The (former) contents of the bottles are as labeled: - Silicate de Chaux - Calcium Silicate - Semences de Fenouil - Fennel Seeds - Pastilles de Calomel - Calomel Lozenges - Teinture de Ratanhia - Ratanhia Tincture - Benzoate de Mercure - Mercuric Benzoate - Poudre Cr : de Tartre - Cream of Tartar Powder - Permagan Potasse - Potassium Permanganate - Vin d’Absinthe - Wine of Absinthe - Poudre d’Ac : Citrique - Citric Acid Powder - Teinture d’Assa Foetida - Tincture of Asafoetida - Alcool de Menthe de Ricqles - Ricqles brand Mint Alcohol - Grande Pharmacie Commerciale du Docteur L. Bobo - Poudre Sulf : d’Antim - Sulfur Powder - Unlabeled The bottles range in size from 1.375” W x 2.75” H for the smallest, to 3” W x 7.75” H for the medium, to 4.5” W x 11.75” H for the largest.
