About the Item

A charming and whimsical set of two original French Art Deco enameled porcelain liqueur bottles (flacons à liqueur) produced by the highly sought after firm of Robj Paris during their most prolific period. These figures are celebrated examples of the playful and high end ceramic novelties that Robj became famous for following the 1925 Exposition des Arts Déco in Paris. Each figure is beautifully hand-painted and embodies the sleek, humorous spirit of the Jazz Age. The Set Includes: "The Dandy" (Gentleman in Top Hat): Modeled as a man in a vibrant blue suit, holding a yellow bag and an orange umbrella. His distinctive top hat acts as the clever bottle stopper. The hat is cracked with tape applied to. "The Basket Lady" (often nicknamed "Guignolet"): Modeled as a woman in a blue dress and yellow apron, carrying a small basket filled with red berries or fruit. Her yellow hat acts as the stopper. Dimensions W9.5 cm / 3.7 in, D8 cm / 3.1 in, H26 cm / 10.2 in Robj was a renowned Art Deco éditeur (publisher), meaning they commissioned ceramic pieces from prestigious European manufacturers like Villeroy et Boch and factories in Limoges and sold them under their own brand. This set represents the height of their liqueur bottle production, which ran to over 40 distinct character designs between 1928 and the early 1930s. Material: Porcelain. Circa 1928–1931. Both pieces are clearly marked on the base in black script: Robj Paris. One bottle also bears the secondary stamp: Limoges, F.E.L. France, confirming its high quality porcelain origin. These figures make a unique, high-end decorative statement, capturing a delightful piece of French Art Deco cultural history. The flasks are stamped on the base with the manufacturer's label - 'Robj Paris. Made in France. The bottle stopper is cleverly made in the form of a hat which is difficult to spot when it's in place.
