French Pair Gilded Bronze Ornamental Neo-Classical Decorated Ewers

About the Item

A very fine pair antique French neo-classical gilded bronze ornamental ewers applied with scroll and vine designs dating from the 19th century. The ewers stand on a scroll and molded shell decorated rounded base with column form stems support hanging fruiting vines and a round body with ornamental relief molded scrolling acanthus leaves and framed panels containing fruiting grapes. The ewers have slender necks with large curved pouring spouts again applied with trailing fruiting vines. Both have intertwined double strand handles with leaf terminals where they adjoin the top. Both have their original gilded finish and neither is marked. A fine quality pair of decorative ewers probably dating from the early to mid 19th century. Provenance: Acquired from the British Art Market. In good condition with wear associated with age with a small amount of verdigris to the foot of one ewer which we have not attempted to clean.
