Oriental Pair Bronze Vases Applied with Birds

About the Item

A very fine and stylish pair Oriental bronze vases, acquired as Chinese, applied with birds and dating from the latter 19th century. The vases stand on a narrow round pedestal foot with hexagonal shaped bodies and tall slender shaped necks. The bodies of the vases are decorated with various birds flying amidst flowering shrubs with further birds applied to the necks, the other with a slightly different scene including wading birds. The vases have an incised stylized petal design around the upper body with incised cloud patterning to the neck and both have molded character marks applied to the bases. Provenance: acquired in the British Art Market. In good condition. Oriental with molded marks to the base of both vases.

    A very fine and stylish antique oriental, Chinese attributed, cloisonne double gourd vase dating from the latter 19th century. The vase stands on a flat brass base with a wide round base, pinched waist and narrow round upper section with a funnel style top with a flat metal rim. The body of the vase is decorated with a mixture of flowering shrubs dominated with flowering hawthorn incorporating a butterfly to one side. The continuous scenes are decorated in colored enamels against a bright turquoise ground and set between formal borders around the foot, the pinched centre and top of the vase.
