About the Item

Pair of emptying vases hand-painted ceramic LENCI signed at the base. ORIGIN Turin PERIOD 1930s MARK The LENCI manufactory was founded in Turin in 1919 by Elena König and Enrico Scavini. Initially dedicated to the production of cloth dolls, it became in the 1920s and 1930s one of Italy's finest artistic ceramic factories, famous for its innovative style and elegant forms. Lenci's ceramics, handmade and painted in bright colors, were distinguished by their modern language, close to the twentieth century and Art Deco, with an often ironic and sophisticated stroke. Many sculptors and artists collaborated with the manufactory, including Sandrino Sandri, Felice Tosalli, and Mario Sturani, creating sinuous female figures, stylized animals, child scenes, and religious subjects. The pieces, intended for a bourgeois and cosmopolitan audience, quickly became collector's items, exported throughout Europe and the Americas. Lenci represents a unique case of the meeting of craftsmanship, design and art, capable of translating the spirit of the times into objects for use and furnishing that still testify to the vitality of Italian creativity in the early 20th century.
