About the Item

An elegant mid-19th century Chinese porcelain ginger jar, finely painted in cobalt blue under a soft celadon glaze. This piece, dating from the Qing dynasty, features a fitted lid with a pointed finial and stylized blue motifs. The decoration depicts a majestic peacock or pheasant standing proudly amidst large peony blossoms and scrolling foliage, traditional symbols of prosperity and beauty in Chinese art. The body and lid show subtle variations in glaze tone, as was typical of the period when lids and jars were fired in separate batches before being matched. The underside bears an old red wax export seal, a desirable feature indicating official approval for shipment as an antique. The lid, which sits perfectly on the jar, retains its original hand-painted stylisation, with minor wear consistent with age. A refined decorative object, this jar embodies the enduring charm of Qing dynasty blue and white porcelain and makes a striking addition to any interior or collection.
