About the Item

A rare and large Luristan bronze ewer, dating to circa 1000 BC. The vessel is finely cast with a rounded body, tall flaring neck, and a sharply everted rim, joined by an arched bronze handle terminating in a small knop finial. Traces of painted geometric decoration in black remain visible across the surface, adding a dynamic, almost modern expression to the ancient form. The surface exhibits a beautiful earthen patina in shades of green and brown, testifying to its long burial and age. Both sculptural and functional, the ewer reflects the artistic refinement of the Luristan culture (Western Iran), renowned for their metalwork in the early Iron Age. Its clean silhouette and bold linear patterning resonate strongly with modernist design sensibilities, making it equally at home in a museum collection or a curated contemporary interior. Date: c. 1000 BC Size: 8.75 inches high Provenance: Private collection; acquired via London art market; formerly in a UK collection since the 1990s Condition: Good condition with choice patina; encrustations and mineral deposits consistent with age This piece stands as both an artifact of ancient craftsmanship and a timeless sculptural object, appealing to collectors of antiquities as well as admirers of modern art and design.
