About the Item

A vintage Chinese, cobalt blue ginger jar - circa 1970s - Qianlong Stamp Decorated with hand-enamelled chinoiserie-style framed scenes to both the front and back. Each side depicting a springtime scene of three vibrant peony flowers blooming on their stems, arching outwards and upwards, with a magpie bird perched at the base. Surrounding these colourful chinoiserie scenes is a sea of peony and chrysanthemum flowers in white, yellow, and pink, set against a bold cobalt blue enamelled background. A wonderfully decorative piece of Chinese Jingdezhen porcelain, based on the Qianlong style. Its decoration offers a host of Chinese symbolism: the magpie is known as 'the bird of joy,' a good omen offering good luck. Peonies are revered as the queen of flowers, symbolising good luck and the renewal of springtime. The jar is in very good condition and is marked on its base with an apocryphal red 'Qianlong' stamp.
