"Face Jar in Cream, Blue and Yellow, " Fabulous Art Deco Pottery by Woman Artist

About the Item

Fabulous and rare, this high-style Art Deco face jar, highlighted in tones of sky blue, lemon yellow and grassy green, was designed by Madeleine Sougez for the famed Primavera ceramic workshop in the 1930s. Primavera was established by the famous Le Printemps department store in Paris, and employed a number of famous artists including René Buthaud. Another example of this jar is held by the famed Hearst Castle in California. This example is missing its lid.

    Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. The jar is missing its lid. There are several chips around the base and around the rim where the lid would sit; soiled crazing to glaze.
