19th Century English Victorian Copper & Bronze Coal Scuttle with Original Liner
About the Item
This antique coal scuttle with the original liner was created in England, circa 1870. Crafted from copper, the oblong bucket stands on bronze paw feet sculpted in the classical style to resemble lion claws, lending stability and visual weight. The bucket features a wide, rounded basin with a hammered rim and riveted base band, lending it a rugged, utilitarian charm. Two ornate bronze lion head handles with brass rings add a regal touch. The piece blends neoclassical and Victorian influences, making it as decorative as it is functional. The decorative jardiniere is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich patinated black painted finish with gilt bronze accents. While originally intended for coal or firewood, it could now serves beautifully as a planter, or a wine cooler. Versatile, it could be use next to a fireplace to store wood burning logs, or as a fancy waste basket.
