About the Item

Magnificent and much coveted gigantic antique pottery holder pre 1900s. A unique piece of handmade ceramic craftmanship, made in the cozy southern French city of Biot, located between Nice and Cannes. The city of Biot has had a tradition of producing pottery jars and ceramics for centuries, which are characterized by their charming yellowish glaze inside and on the brim. This was to prevent insects from crawling up over the edge. The jars were typically used for olive oil and exported around the entire Mediterranean. It would look great outside, in a garden or conservatory or in the home, as it will undoubtedly attract attention as an eye catching item, giving atmosphere and look beautiful indoors as a decorative object with its elegant appearance. Kindly note that there is a drainage hole in the side/base (see images).
