Gien Faience Jardiniere

About the Item

This large, very colourful, twin handled Gien Faience jardiniere is hand painted and features a god and goddess on either side seated below red coloured bows and numerous cherubs supporting shell shaped fountains. It stands on four feet and measures 510 mm (20 inches) in width, 295 mm (11.5 inches) in depth and stands 180 mm (7.25 inches) high. It does have some scratches on the inside, as you would expect, where pots etc. have stood over the last 150 years, but nothing of any great concern. There is also a small, shallow star crack to the base, as shown in the photo of the mark, but it doesn't come through to the inside. Overall, it is in very good condition. Made in France, it dates from the period 1871-5.
