About the Item

Vase with copper base and partial silver plating Italy, probably Rome or Naples, late 19th century Elegant ornamental vase in embossed and silver-plated copper, with an antique green patina of extraordinary chromatic depth. The ovoid body is entirely decorated in relief with a dense intertwining of laurel leaves and pomegranates, symbols of fertility and abundance. The decoration, executed with sculptural mastery, alternates embossed reliefs and hand chiseling, with a refined interplay of burnished and silver-plated surfaces. The side handles, with twisted scrolls in neo-Renaissance style, are adorned with feather motifs and chiseled rosettes. The green patina, partly natural and partly obtained with period oxidative pigments, gives the work a character of authenticity and antiquity of rare consistency. The original base, cast in the same metal and decorated with radial motifs of leaves and pomegranates, harmoniously completes the composition, reflecting a late 19th-century taste poised between the Neo-Renaissance and the first influences of Art Nouveau. The whole reveals the hand of a high-level artistic workshop, probably active between Rome and Naples, in a field similar to that of the Sabatino De Angelis & Fils or Chiurazzi foundries, famous for the quality of their bronze and silver-plated copper work. Attribution: Italian workshop, central-southern area, late 19th century Technique: embossed and silver-plated copper, original green patina Condition: excellent, with contemporary patina and silver plating
