About the Item

Large glazed earthenware cachepot with relief decoration of flowers, arabesques and griffins in cartouches. Griffin-shaped handles. The Onnaing earthenware factory was founded on February 2, 1821 by brothers Ferdinand-Louis de Bousies, Charles de Bousies (vicomte de Rouveroy), their cousin Chevalier Adolphe de Bousies and Baron Frédéric de Sécus. The Onnaing earthenware factory was initially a new location for the Belgian factory in Nimy, designed to circumvent customs duties. From 1827 onwards, the factory was acquired several times, and in 1894 became Société Anonyme de la Faïencerie d’Onnaing. At the height of its expansion, the factory covered 6 hectares and employed 500 workers. The factory was severely affected by the First World War; kilns, molds and buildings were destroyed. It was finally liquidated in 1947. To know more, click on this Wikipedia link (in French)
