Biography :
Émile-Jean Masselotte, metal gilder, is listed at 2 rue Neuve-Saint-Pierre, with the square E.M. punch with beehive, stamped on December 13, 1860. He is mentioned in an article dedicated to the engraver-modeler Émile Philippe, on the occasion of the Universal Exhibition of 1867, in the “Industrial Art” section : « Depuis l’invention de la dorure à la pile, un grave inconvénient s’était produit.
He was awarded the 500 Franc prize, created at the end of 1867 by Mr. Goldenberg to reward “the invention of a healthy gilding process which made it possible to obtain a matte appearance” without risks to the health of the workers, the so-called pyroelectric process.
