About the Item

Stage your front entry or garden with this elegant pair of antique planters. Crafted in France circa 1880 and stamped “Dechenard” on the underside, each oval jardinière stands on scrolled hoof feet beneath a bombe-form body richly decorated with floral and foliate motifs in high relief. The pierced and scalloped rim adds movement and lightness to the sculptural design, while the Rococo-style cartouches and shell details emphasize its Louis XV inspiration. The pieces bear the mark of Dechenard, a 19th-century French foundry known for its finely cast ornamental ironwork and decorative garden furnishings. Though little is recorded about the firm, its craftsmanship reflects the high standards of French metalwork during the Belle Époque, when such elaborate castings adorned châteaux interiors and winter gardens. Both jardinières are in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, exhibiting a beautifully aged steel patina in a nuanced black and silver palette. These refined garden vessels would bring timeless French character to an indoor conservatory, front veranda, or courtyard setting. Measures: 25.5" W x 12.5" D x 13.5" H.
