Swiss Black Forest Carved Wooden Planter Box / Jardinière, circa 1895

About the Item

Elegant from every angle, this beautiful wooden planter box (or jardinière in French) features elaborate carvings over a lattice background. The front of the box showcases birds on festooning foliage above a carved fox. The back of the box displays a central shield under additional festooning foliage. An arrangement of fruit amid leaves adorns the sides and arched crowns of the front and back. Raised on a turned and carved pedestal, which terminates in three short legs with carved fruit and leaves at the knees, the planter is just shy of three feet tall. A newer plastic liner, which is removable, prevents water damage and holds plants in place. The inside of the liner is 20.25" (W) x 10.25" (D) x 6.5" (H).
