About the Item

With its bright turquoise glaze and eye-catching texture, this Spanish midcentury porcelain basket adds a striking pop of color and craftsmanship to any space. Crafted in the 1950s or 1960s, the piece is designed to mimic woven ropework, with each rib of twisted porcelain meticulously modeled to create a trompe-l’oeil effect. The openwork construction allows light to play through the gaps, enhancing its visual lightness despite its solid ceramic form. The top edge is finished with a continuous twisted band, echoing the vertical elements and tying the whole silhouette together with pleasing rhythm and symmetry. Elevated on three curled feet that resemble scrolls or stylized rope ends, the piece balances decorative whimsy with sculptural presence. Its bold hue and handmade character evoke the charm of Mediterranean design, while its condition and glaze quality speak to careful preservation. Ideal as a standalone decorative accent, it can also function as a cachepot or centerpiece. A vivid collectible for lovers of Spanish ceramics or midcentury European décor.
