Very Large Smelting Pot, No4

About the Item

These smelting pots are fabulous decorative pieces. They are an impressive size and each one has a different colour to it. The way these are produced is one of the main reasons I love them as they are really created by accident and chance. To explain, what happens is when the smelting pots starts life they are usually black or dark red. Over the duration of its life it will be rapidly heated and then cooled on a number of occasions which causes the surface to break out in bursts of colour and then glaze over. The material smelted inside also plays a big roll in the colour that will appear. In this instance these were used for aluminium and the colours created are a blue, green and red. So for a piece that was solely made as a functional product to be transformed into something utterly stunning is really quite special. I have 6 of these ideal for use both inside or out. These are extremely heavy so there will be no fear of them blowing over. You may also see on some cracks, this is again purely from the stress of the heating and cooling but no cracks go right through meaning they are perfectly useable for planting etc. Height 60cm Diameter 53cm
