Wedgwood Crimson Jasper Jardinière

$4,450Asking Price

About

The classical elegance of Wedgwood is showcased in this rare crimson jasperware jardinière. The highly prized vivid crimson hue of the vessel is beautifully accented by white flowered and ribboned garlands, while the draped Grecian figures of the muses encircle the form. Jasperware is considered one of Josiah Wedgwood's most significant contributions to ceramic art and is the result of several thousand individual experiments. Consisting of a white stoneware body which can be colored by the addition of metal oxides, the composition of jasper was the factory's most closely guarded secret. In terms of quality and rarity, this crimson dip jardinière is counted among the most desirable examples of Wedgwood jasperware. Impressed “Wedgwood England” circa 1920 Measures: 9" diameter x 8" high.
