About the Item

Copper vessels of this nature were once primitively made in Europe and Middle Eastern areas of the world. This piece is a stunning example of the stout, but primitive craftsmanship that went into creating it. This jug, most likely made for the storage and serving of liquids such as water or milk, tells a story of its creation by way of the unique dovetail technique or “castellated” joint, used along with brass to close and seam the vessel together. The thick copper strap handle was roughly cut and attached with large hand-hammered copper spikes. This is a substantial vessel and visually a very impressive and tantalizing piece that would be magnificent in a French country kitchen, or many other unique décors.
