French 19th Century Neo-Classical St. Oxblood Red Glass and Ormolu Lidded Urn

About the Item

A stunning French 19th century Neo-Classical st. oxblood red glass and ormolu lidded urn. The urn is raised by a circular base with handsome ormolu paw feet amidst scrolled and fluted and hammered designs below the mottled socle shaped pedestal support. The elegant baluster shaped oxblood red glass body displays exceptional ormolu handles at each side with superb interlocking vine designs with richly chased grape leaves with lovely finely etched designs and charming grapes throughout. At the lightly curved neck is a wraparound ormolu band with a similar most decorative vine like design all below the removable lid with a striking intricately detailed bird with its wings open balancing to eat the grapes all in a superb satin and burnished finish. Exceptional attention to detail and original gilt throughout.
