Large Pair of 19th Century Italain Medici Urns on Sienna Marble Bases

About the Item

This impressive and large pair of decorative urns from the grand tour are designed to recreate the famous Medici Vase. The grand vase a 1st century AD Greek massive carved marble urn meant to grace a great roman villa as a garden ornament now resides in the Uffizi Gallery and was once owned by the Medici Princes and became a great tourist attraction on the grand tour for wealthy and educated travelers. These Italian examples from the 19th century circa 1830 are finely cast and of a large scale with good chased details and finishing. They are set up on large sienna marble bases set with bronze mounts and separations creating an even more dramatic empire design. Once these were part of the inventory of antiques dealer and interior design consultant of all things neoclassical Niall Smith.
