Ormolu-Mounted Rococo Style Antique Marble Urn

About the Item

This exuberantly designed lidded urn is carved in veined green marble. The body of the urn is of canted ovoid shape and mounted with twin acanthus leaf ormolu handles. The body of the urn features fluting which tapers inwards towards the waisted base, set on a curvacious marble plinth, mounted at the corners with ormolu acanthus leaves. The marble base is further set upon scrolling ormolu mounts which serve as feet. The urn cover meets the body with an ormolu band of stylized acanthus leaf and shell forms, and is surmounted by a gallery of ormolu shell motifs and a pine cone finial.
