A Pair of 1800s Ormolu-Mounted French Sevres Style Drum-Shaped Vases and Covers

About the Item

A Pair of Ormolu-Mounted Sevres-Style Drum-Shaped Vases and Covers. With Sevres Marks, from Late 19th Century These elegant vases each feature domed covers, beautifully painted with raised-gilt cartouches of pink peonies. The vases are adorned with upright scroll-bracket handles, draped with hop-vine swags and terminating in satyr masks. The tapering necks showcase panels of figures playing instruments within Chinoiserie landscapes, with the reverse depicting huts by a river. Raised-gilt cartouches with peonies and iron-red feathers are set within C-scrolls and green-diaper-pattern panels. The mid-section of each vase is painted with groups of people playing music instruments, while the reverse displays similar landscape vignettes within raised-gilt, shaped rectangular cartouches. The vases rest on socles decorated with smaller landscape scenes, and the ormolu bases feature molded garlands and hanging pendant flowerheads. A truly remarkable pair of vases, exemplifying exceptional craftsmanship and fine detailing. Condition: One of the porcelain covers has been professionally repaired and partly repainted. There are minor / minimal chips (missing glaze) underneath the ormolu-mounted rim (which are not visible when the brass ornament is in place). Otherwise, the vases are in very good antique condition.
