View All19th Century Russian Ruby Red Glass Vase with Gilt Bronze Mounts
Located in Stockholm, SE
A highly decorative and unusual large ruby red vase with a gilt and silvered bronze stand. The gilt and silvered bronze base with three sturgeons. Possibly of Russian origin and made in the late 19th century. The cut glass vase lifts off the bronze base. It holds water and is in perfect condition.
Sturgeon is one of the oldest bone fishes still in existence and the oldest fossils found date back the Early Jurassic period, some 174 to 201 million years ago. There are 28 different type of sturgeon species. Sturgeons are native to subtropical, temperate and sub-Arctic rivers, lakes and coastlines of Eurasia and North America.
Sturgeons are long-lived and can get very large, the largest sturgeon on record was a beluga female captured in the Volga Delta in 1827, measuring 7.2 m (23 ft 7 in). Several species of sturgeon are harvested for their roe, which is processed into the luxury food caviar like the beluga caviar.
Beluga caviar is caviar consisting of the roe...

19th Century Alabaster Grand Tour Sculpture of the Temple Of Vespasian And Titus
Located in Stockholm, SE
This finely carved 19th-century alabaster sculpture is a nice example of Grand Tour artistry, depicting the Temple of Vespasian and Titus in Rome. The base is inscribed "TEMPIO DI VESPASIANO," and the entablature bears the partial inscription "ESTITVER," referencing the Latin word "restituerunt," meaning "they restored," from a 3rd-century inscription commemorating renovations by Emperors Septimius Severus and Caracalla.
The Temple of Vespasian and Titus, located at the western end of the Roman Forum, was initiated by Emperor Titus in 79 AD to honor his deified father, Vespasian. After Titus's death in 81 AD, his brother Domitian completed the temple around 87 AD. Designed in the Corinthian order, the temple featured a hexastyle portico with six columns at the front and was constructed in a constrained space measuring approximately 33 meters in length and 22 meters in width.
During the 19th century, as part of the Grand Tour tradition, affluent European and American travelers collected architectural souvenirs...
