Pair of Antique Italian Neoclassical Relief Carved Gilt Wood Decorative Urns

About the Item

A stunning pair of antique Italian Neo-classical faux marble wooden urns. Born in Italy around the 18th/early 19th century, sculptural lidded urn architectural element form, hand carved from a single block of wood, exquisitely decorated in classical motif of putti, fiolate, grape vine reliefs and carved giltwood accents, surmounted by finial topped dome shaped parcel gilt lid, bulbous form tapered vasiform body, fluted socle supported on footed pedestal atop square plinth base. Finished in elegant antique white / cream / ivory faux marble / faux bisque porcelain finish with beautifully aged distressed patina and outstanding craquelure. Luxurious gold gilt accents, richly carved, sculpted and gilded, modeled in ancient Greek and Roman taste, with attractive worn appearance that does not detract from the aesthetics but only adds to the overall sophisticated antique character, refined elegant warmth, and rich historic depth that can only be acquired over very long periods of time! Dimensions (approx): 14" Tall, 4.75" Diameter Good size and proportions, ideal for a variety of uses, including placed on a fireplace mantle, atop pedestals flanking a door or entry, as oversized bookends, or on the ends of a large shelf or console table Great original unrestored antique condition with beautifully aged heavily worn distressed patina over the whole.
