About the Item
Rich in opulence and storytelling, this vintage pair of lidded urns from China presents a vivid tableau of equestrian elegance. Against a lustrous ivory ground, each rounded vessel is adorned with hand-painted hunting scenes, where riders in 18th-century European dress gallop through a field of hounds, framed by flowering trees, turreted architecture, and distant mountains.
The scenes are bordered with scrolling foliage in raised gold enamel, dramatically set against a deep cobalt background that wraps around the reverse. The layered palette of pink, green, blue, and sepia imbues the narrative with movement and charm, while the applied goldwork adds a tactile richness. Gilded round lids with similar repoussé-inspired ornamentation complete the composition, each crowned with a red faux cabochon medallion.
