About the Item

An impressive and large scale pair of French 19th century Louis XVI st. Breche Violette marble and Ormolu urns, in the manner of Linke. Each stunning urn is raised by a thick stepped marble plinth decorated by an exquisite Ormolu acorn leaf designed border. Above is an attractive tapering base with elaborate stylized designs of intertwined gadroons and large laurel leaves. Stunning swaging foliate garlands accent the mid section of each urn and connect to the large scale handles to each side. Each richly chased and most sensational Ram's head handle is joined by a pierced foliate band and display wonderful scrolled horns leading to a beaded band. Above is the tapered neck below the foliate decorated lid with an acorn finial. François Linke (1855-1946) Renowned 19th Century Parisian Ébéniste. Linke created historical interpretations of Louis XV and Louis XVI styles. He displayed at the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1900 where he received a gold medal.
