Pair of French 19th Century Louis XVI St. Marble and Ormolu Lidded Urns
About the Item
A magnificent and most impressive pair of French 19th century Louis XVI st. Sarrancolin marble and ormolu lidded urns. Each large scale urn is raised by a square marble base with a fine bottom ormolu fillet and a remarkable wrap around tied fluted band at the socle shaped pedestal support. The beautifully shaped body displays striking scrolled foliate designs at the base and the impressive Nemean lion skins draped along the top centered by handsome lion heads and richly chased paws at each side hanging throughout a hoop. Above the curved neck and a reeded wrap around ormolu band is the removable lid with a superb acorn finial in a rich satin and burnished finish and which lift off to reveal the finished interior.
