About the Item
An elegant and high quality pair of French 19th century Louis XVI st. Onyx and Ormolu urns. Each exceptional lidded urn is raised by a solid square Onyx base over an Ormolu bottom support and top Ormolu beaded trim. The socle shaped pedestals display fine wrap around berried laurel bands and lovely foliate lightly curved supports. The solid Onyx bodies display impressive richly chased bearded satyrs with horns, grapes, and grape leaves in their hair. The satyrs are connected by beautiful and finely detailed swaging floral garlands with charming vine branches, grapes, and additional grape leaves. The rims display elegant pierced circular designs below the fitted removable lids with fine foliate and acorn finials.
